The finished Pineapple Brown Sugar Galette (recipe was from Williams-Sonoma Pie and Tart book, if you hadn't guessed). Unfortunately, it leaked pineapple juice, which got all burned to the cookie sheet, so I have some scrubbing in my future. But the galette looks good. I hope it survives the trip to Pittsburgh!

What to do for dinner? Perhaps some linguine with clam sauce. That's easy! (And I should enjoy it while I'm still living alone, since clams creep Patrick out--and don't even get him started on Clamato!)

pineapple

Look! I bought a pineapple. It smells good. I bought it because I'm going to make a Pineapple-Brown Sugar Galette (like a rustic tart) to take to Pittsburgh on Friday (yep, back for one last weekend visit). I hope it turns out well.

Aside from that, today has been pretty sucky. Oh well...I get to see Patrick this weekend, so that's something to look forward to.

Hmm...I don't have much to say about today. But tomorrow I'm going to buy a pineapple!

P.S. Wanna hear something grody? I accidentally dropped my dinner on the floor tonight, and I still ate it. This was my rationale: (1) I vacuumed yesterday, so it couldn't be that dirty, and (2) it was cous-cous, so it stayed pretty well stuck to itself, not the floor, and (3) I examined every bite for obvious nastiness before eating it. So that's okay, right? I was worried Patrick would be so grossed out when he heard it that he'd break up with me, but he's a strong man :) Just as long as I never drop his dinner on the floor and make him eat it...

Oh, and just so you know, I didn't eat the food directly off the floor--I returned it to the plate it fell off of. I'm not an animal! That reminds me of the episode of Friends where Chandler and Rachel drop the really good cheesecake, and they just eat it off the floor. And then Joey comes along with a fork and joins in. See, I'm not that uncouth :)

Ooh, sunset!

Also, I made some tasty dinner tonight! I grilled up eggplant (minus the peel), yellow squash, and tomatoes on the George Foreman grill, then mixed them with toasted pine nut cous-cous and a little balsamic vinegar. Mmm...

Our group's new post-doc is from Japan, and he brought us all presents--that's so nice of him! He gave each of us biodegradable toothbrushes (they're cool if you're a polymer scientist :) and an address book.

I like the little card that came with it. It says "This is sure to make your room elegant and cultural all the more, and is the best for not only an interior ornament, but a gift to foreigners". Yes, yes it is.

Today, I left work early and got ice cream at Toscaninis. One scoop lemon, one cocoa pudding. That made me happy :) The only thing better would've been sharing it with Patrick (I sound like a broken record, don't I?).
