wet cement outside my balcony

It rained last night for the first time this season. I love rain, especially when you're all cuddly in bed and it's raining really hard outside. And you know, snow's not too bad either, although driving in it is scary. Oh, and walking in it for long distances is no fun--I used to walk half a mile to my bus stop in 10th grade through the Colorado snow, and my nose would be numb and my hair would freeze. Blah...but a little snow isn't bad. Maybe if I go to grad school on the East Coast I'll learn to ski. Not likely though...

Today I will do work...I swear!

exit sign

Done with the GRE subject test (for the second time). I won't take it again! I mean it this time! See, I retook it because Prof. Baker didn't think I'd get the NSF fellowship with my current score. Although I have basically no idea how I did (there were so many questions that I'm pretty sure I knew, but maybe not), I found out a heartening fact: apparently, chemists from the Claremont Colleges (which Mudd belongs to) get notoriously bad scores on the GRE Chemistry test. On the order of 30th percentile. Makes me feel better about my first score, but I'd still like to make a decent showing. I wonder why we suck so badly when our schools brag they have such great programs. Huh...when I go to grad school, I'll find out once and for all whether Mudd is really as great as admissions claims it is. I mean, I like it, but I've always worried that we're not as smart as Mudd says. I'll report back on that issue next year :)

Mmm...eating warm, toasty English muffins with melted butter while it rains outside. Life is good.

P.S. This is crazy! An Italian woman got pregnant twice!

I'm off to spend Thanksgiving with Patrick's family in the Bay Area. Be back in a few days!

Atwood submerged!

So Thanksgiving with Patrick's family was lots of fun. They had all the right food (cranberry sauce from a can is a Thanksgiving necessity, in my family tradition). I have too much work right now to put up pictures or anything, sorry.

That picture above is from yesterday. It rained a lot, and our dorm (Atwood) got a little flooded. Apparently, our courtyard drainage system failed. Oh well! It made me wish I had galoshes though...
